SXSW releases first artist series for Austin’s comeback in 2022
After being canceled in 2020 and held virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the music festival will be held in person in Austin from March 14-20, 2022.
The initial roster released on October 20 features artists from around the world, ranging from established to up-and-coming artists, who will bring their work to venues in downtown Austin during the duration of the festival.
The announcement was the first in a series of revelations about the artists invited to perform at SXSW.
Here are some of the artists on the list released on October 20, which includes a few artists from the Lone Star State.
Poppy Ajudha: The South London-born artist blends soul, R&B, jazz and pop into his âavant-garde and socio-politically consciousâ music and highlights the diversity of London’s musical culture.
ANAVITÃRIA: The singer-songwriters Ana Caetano and VitÃ³ria FalcÃ£o form the Brazilian folk-pop duo. The duo have released four albums and all of them were nominated for Best Contemporary Portuguese Pop Album at the Latin Grammys.
WITCH (We intend to wreak havoc): Hailing from Zambia, the rock group was popular in the country in the 1970s and even spearheaded the creation of a new genre called Zamrock, which is inspired by the Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath and others.
UNDER FORT: This 80s punk-inspired band from Los Angeles creates “catchy and explosive music” and toured with The Black Lips after playing Coachella.
Court Act: Formed just over two years ago in England, the indie rock band have released four singles in 2020 and 2021 and are expected to release their debut album next January.
Claire Rousay: The San Antonio-based musician highlights everyday emotion in her work, described as âbefore / experimentalâ and âambientâ.
Monaleo: Houston hip-hop and rap artist Monaleo released his debut single “Beating Down Yo Block” in 2020 and has since released two more singles.
James mcmurtry: The artist Americana has just released his new album, Horses and dogs at the end of August, his first in seven years. McMurtry’s work has already reached the Billboard 200 chart and topped the Americana Music Radio charts.
