The Emerging Artists Theater is now accepting submissions for its new biannual spring series of works in Manhattan

Emerging Artists Theater (EAT) is seeking submissions of fine works in progress that are ready to be presented to an audience for their Spring New Work Series (NWS), which is scheduled to run March 6-26 at the TADA Theater in the Flatiron District. . The Fall New Work Series was chosen by critics from The New York Times and Time Out New York and featured 70 new works with over 450 participating artists. In January, EAT will begin its 30th season of showcasing new work.

Submissions of short plays, musicals, solo performances, dance, cabaret, comedy sketches, jazz, burlesque, drag, monologues, storytelling, variety, musicians/subway numbers , and more are now supported. If you have an artistic discipline that is not mentioned or is “off the beaten path”, please feel free to submit. We’re always interested in new pieces, especially first-time artists.

Artists are free to present their work, whether it is a staged reading or a non-book production. The shows take place every evening from Monday to Saturday at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 9 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. If you submit a short piece, you will be paired with another theater or dance piece to create a 60-75 minute performance slot. Submissions must be at least 5 minutes for dance pieces. Productions cannot be played two months before the NWS or one month after.

The deadline for submission is December 1, 2022 at midnight (EST). There are no submission or festival fees, and entrants receive a 50/50 box office split when the audience guarantee is reached. Artists who filled the house won between $300 and $900 for a 30-minute to one-hour presentation. All participants must be fully vaccinated. The New Work Series is a three-week bi-annual development series that offers artists from different disciplines the opportunity to showcase a night of “work in progress” with audience feedback. Since its inception in 2006, hit shows FringeNYC, NYMF, Edinburgh Fringe and Off-Broadway have grown out of this series. Artistic director Paul Adams and company members Andrea Alton and Vanessa Shealy serve as the series’ curators.

The Emerging Artists Theater offers:

• A 99-seat off-Broadway theater in the heart of Manhattan (please note seating may be reduced due to Covid)
