The Kingdom of the Netherlands contributes to this festival for several consecutive editions. For this edition edition via a magnificent hybrid format executed. The two concerts by Tom van der Zaal and Shishani & Sisterhood were broadcast live from the Netherlands, Amsterdam: Tom van der Zaal from Club Cinetone and Shishani & Sisterhood from cultural venue Melkweg. Both performances gave a rich impression of current Dutch contemporary music, especially in jazz and world music.
Shishani is a singer, guitarist and songwriter famous for her powerful voice. Her roots are Namibian and Belgian, but she grew up in the Netherlands. Through his work, these worlds come together. Her work has a strong social consciousness that centralizes women. For this concert, Shishane brings together a diverse program of multidisciplinary performers centralizing female artists also rooted in Indonesia. Tom van der Zaal is an award-winning saxophonist and composer from the Netherlands. His frequent appearances on international stages make him one of the most promising young Dutch artists: a new rising star on the international jazz scene around the world. Tom’s music can best be described as: lyrical, harmonious, energetic, adventurous and with an emotional depth that you clearly hear in his debut album “Time Will Tell”, an ode to the legendary Blue Note records of the 50s and 60s.
